CHANDRAYAN – FACTS AND FIGURE

Chardrayaan-1 is the first Indian Mission to the Moon devoted to high-resolution remote sensing of the lunar surface features in visible, near infrared, X-ray and low energy gamma ray regions. This will be accomplished using several payloads already selected for the mission. In addition a total of about 10 kg payload weight and 10 W power are earmarked for proposals, which are now solicited. The mission is proposed to be a lunar polar orbiter at an altitude of about 100 km and is planned to be launched by october 2008 using indigenous spacecraft and launch vehicle of ISRO. The mission is expected to have an operational life of about 2 years.

FASTER THAN BULLET – BUT BULLET

1.The popular English name bullet train is a literal translation of the Japanese term dangan ressha a nickname given to the project while it was initially being discussed in the 1930s.The name stuck due to the Shinkansen locomotive’s resemblance to a bullet and its high speed.

THE LOTUS TEMPLE

1.The grand “Lotus Temple” is termed by many as the Taj of modern India.It is “the most visited building in the world, according to a CNN report” also “the most visited building in India, surpassing even the Taj Mahal with some 4.5 million visitors a year.”

2.The vast lawns, the massive white structure, the high ceiling Prayer Hall, and a temple without idols standing so close to an ancient Hindu temple aroused the interest of all and sundry.
